GENERAL RULES
Kansas hunting license or Controlled Shooting license required. Licenses will not be sold at competition, but can be obtained locally.
Hunters safety certificate required for anyone born after July 1, 1957. Must be at least 12 years old to compete.
Competition consists of three divisions: single flushing, single pointing, and mixed doubles.
Single team consists of one hunter and one dog. Doubles team consists of 2 hunters and 2 dogs. Dogs in doubles can be pointing, flushing, or combination of both. Hunters must remain within 30 yards of each other at all times. Each hunter must shoot at least twice.
Teams may have up to two entries per competition, but must be signed up in advance for both runs prior to the start of the competition. No refunds will be given to second runs paid for but not used.
Entries for dogs in heat will be accepted only if placed at the end of the day.
Safety glasses and orange vest and/or hat must be worn during competition.
Dogs to be leashed or kenneled except during their run in the quail hunt and must be leashed immediately after their run. Shock collars allowed.
No running in field. After one warning, a ten point penalty will be assessed. Hunter will be disqualified on third offense.
Hunter must remain in blind while their field is being stocked. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
Hunter, dog, and judge must exit field at the closest boundary.
Fields will be stocked with five birds in the single runs except for the first run of the day which will have six birds stocked and ten birds for doubles except first run of the day which will have eleven birds. Any birds leaving or entering the fields after stocker has left will be considered the luck of the draw. No birds will be replaced.
A bird bumped by a judge or spectator that comes down in bounds will be hunted as if the bird flew on its own. If the bird goes out of bounds, full points will be awarded.
No points will be awarded for any bird falling outside the field, unless it is retrieved by dog. Hunters may not leave the field at any time except to release dog on point and must lay down gun to release dog. Birds flushed inbounds and not shot will not be counted as bagged if caught out of bounds.
Hunters intentionally loading the field for the next run will be disqualified.
All birds or bird parts must be removed from field. Intentional leaving of birds or bird parts will result in disqualification.
If a bird is found in the field and is still warm, the judge will award full points. If the bird is dead and is cold, no points will be awarded. All birds found dead MUST be inspected by the judge.
A safety may be requested in the event of obstruction such as a person, vehicle, or building. A safety will be scored in full, less one point and a shell.
Shells will be limited to ten shells/hunter. Ten points will be given for each unused shell.

Ten points will be awarded for each produced, bagged bird. If the bird is not bagged, no points will be awarded.
To receive credit for full retrieve, hunter must remain stationary after shot. One pivot foot will be allowed, but must not advance or retreat. If hunter moves for any reason, a full retrieve will not be awarded. A partial retrieve will be awarded when the dog finds the bird, picks it up, and makes an attempt to bring it to the hunter.
If your dog flushes a bird in another competitor’s field, it will be scored as full points for the competitor, minus one shell, up to two birds. The dog may be retrieved only with the permission of the judge in the invaded field and possible disqualification may occur.
Flushes: dog must flush the bird.
Points: dog must hold for 3 seconds and bird must be produced.
A caught bird will be allowed full points.
No more birds will be scored than the number of the standard set. Shooting more than the amount of birds set will be grounds for disqualification.
Single runs will be limited to fifteen minutes, doubles will be limited to twenty minutes. The clock will stop when the last bird is in hand or when the time limit is up. There will be a 60 second grace period to complete retrieves after the time has expired.
Communication with spectators while in the field will result in disqualification.
Rules announced day of hunt take precedence over written rules.
We reserve the right to adjust the running order to keep the event flowing.
